Simple Ways to De-Clutter Your Kitchen

A cluttered kitchen can be an eyesore and could create an uncomfortable place to eat or spend time. But there is no reason to worry. By de-cluttering your kitchen you can relax in a room of the house you may spend a lot of time in. You may even need to think about a kitchen renovation. Now let's look at some ways to de-clutter your kitchen.

The first thing you need to do is to come to terms with the idea that your kitchen needs to be de-cluttered. Once you do this you can start by opening up all of the cabinets in your kitchen. By doing this you can now truly see how much it needs to be done. Your next step is to look at what you have and then decide what you really don't need. Now we move on to the preparation stage. You should grab some large trash bags or a few big boxes for the stuff you are getting rid of. You should also have something to put the things you're keeping in. After everything is taken out step back and look at what you have and decide whether you're going to put it back as it was or are you going to renovate.

Kitchen renovation is always a big step but sometimes the right one. If this is a job you feel you are unqualified for you should really consider hiring a contractor to help. This will help you avoid any undue destruction. You can also hire a painter if you're going all out. Nothing helps your house look better than a fresh coat of paint. Adding storage space or even more cabinets if possible can help you keep the clutter to a minimum. No matter which way you decide to go you can be sure it will add value and cleanliness to your home.

Kitchen Pot Rack - Who's Back Hurts?

I am now the proud owner of a stainless steel wall mounted pot rack. My kitchen is now the room that I love to enter. It makes me feel organized, professional and most of all comfortable. It has enhanced every element of my kitchen. My kitchen seems friendlier and I have more free time to prepare my meals. It has become the focal point and wow factor of my room.

We all need more space and less clutter in the kitchen. It makes our lives run smoother and gives us a peaceful disposition. The pot rack helps upgrade and update the room that we spend so much time in. It is not only functional but eye catching to anyone that beholds it. These little details make the difference between an impersonal kitchen and the room that you never want to leave.

There are some questions you must ask yourself before you go out and buy a kitchen pot rack. Your first questions should be where you will put this in your kitchen. The options are hanging, wall mounted, lighted or stand alone. Hanging pot racks are generally placed over kitchen islands or peninsulas. Wall mounted pot racks are usually positioned below or between cabinets. If you have more then enough space, a stand alone can be very attractive. For additional lighting, a pot rack that comes with downlights illuminates the kitchen and will add ambiance to your working space. Ceiling pot racks come with grids which allow you to adjust the hooks for hanging your pots and pans in a way that will be most convenient for your reach.

The wall mounted pot rack that I choose had an extra shelf for storage for my cookbooks and decorations.

Some of the shapes that are available are rectangular, oval, bookshelf, round, dome and square. There are also various materials. You can find them in black, copper, silver, brass, stainless steel, bronze, chrome, wrought iron and wood.

Kitchen Design Ideas

whether the kitchen is merely a place for you to prepare meals, or if it also serves as a place where you have family gatherings and entertain close friends. Consider how your meals are prepared and also what type of appliances you have or are planning to purchase.

Once all these points have been considered then you move to other crucial points, such as architecture, color schemes, kitchen cabinets, lighting, faucets, sinks, fixtures, countertops and furniture. Modern kitchens these days mostly have the island concept. A kitchen island is normally placed in the middle of the kitchen and serves as a place for you to store most of your kitchen items, and provides additional counter top space, too.

The best place for you to obtain some ideas for kitchen designs would be in home-related magazines like Kitchen Design & Remodeling, Kitchen & Bath Ideas, Beautiful Kitchens, Kitchen Planning Guide, Kitchen Makeovers, 50 Dream Kitchens, Better Homes, Decorating, Renovation Style, Beautiful Homes, Creative Home, and Before & After. You also have the option of dropping by the nearest kitchen showrooms to have a first-hand look at the available kitchen models.

5 Kitchen Design Ideas

In deciding on how to design your kitchen, you must take into consideration such things as: will your kitchen have an island? Will it be of a modern or traditional design? What kinds of appliances will you need for your new kitchen design? What kind of lighting design?
1. Kitchen as 'Great Room'
Whether you are redesigning an existing kitchen or planning a new kitchen in a new home there are some design considerations to keep in mind, such as including in an island or peninsula as part of the kitchen design. These can be used to connect the kitchen to a nearby dining area or family room thereby creating a 'great room'. A kitchen island or peninsula will allow the cook to keep in visual and conversational contact with family members or guests in the adjoining family or dining room.
2. Create a Kitchen Canopy
To give the kitchen some visible borders without blocking views create a kitchen canopy. Also a high ceiling in the kitchen can create the perception of spaciousness.

3. Using Kitchen Cabinet Color to Set Tone of Kitchen Design
Kitchen cabinets will help set the tone for the whole room. The choice of wood will influence the overall look of your cabinets. To create a light look, use a light wood such as ash, beech, birch, oak, maple, or chestnut. For medium range, select cherry. To darker kitchens, choose wood that has some color to it.

4. Plan Out Use of Cabinets and Drawers in The New Kitchen Design
Plan out in the kitchen design blueprint just how your cabinets and drawers will be used and how much space and storage you will need before you start your new kitchen design. The first thing to examine is the counter surface area. Look at where you put everything in your existing kitchen and where in your new kitchen design will these things will go in the new space. Will there be more than one person cooking at a time. If so, will there be enough room for two cooks in the kitchen to work together?

5. Use The Galley-Type Kitchen Design
As for counter arrangements, many kitchen designers agree the galley-type design to be the best in terms of efficiency with it's single aisle and counters to either side, making it easy to turn around to go from sink to cooking range.

ServeCup Of Coffee

The initial aim in producing any cup of coffee is to release the coffee oils and soluble organic compunds from the coffee grounds into solution in the final cup.

Not all the soluble compounds are desirable particularly tannin so it is important to brew the coffee is just the right manner to produce the perfect cup.

Although it is possible to extract as much as a third of the mass of coffee from the grounds the optimum amount is about 20%

There are six important factors to consider when making fresh coffee.

1/ The coffee grind - By this we mean the particle size of the coffee grounds. This varies typically from largest to smallest thus: coarse, medium, fine and espresso (or very fine)

Over-extraction can occur if the grind size is too small for the method and equipment used resulting in a coffee being bitter and too strong. If the size is too large then under-extraction will occur resulting in a weak wishy-washy coffee.

Typically one would use a coarse grind for a coffee pot, medium grind for a cafetiere (French Press), medium to fine for a typical filter drip machine and espresso grind for an espresso machine.

2/ Freshness and quantity of coffee - Coffee beans should be stored in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight and ideally kept in an airtight container. The coffee should be ground to order as ground coffee will lose some of its subtle flavours and aromas if is left exposed to the atmosphere for very long.

It is very important to use the suggested amount of coffee to match the brewing equipment. Increasing the brewing time, but using less coffee will not work very well but produce an over-extracted beverage. Using more coffee than recommended but a quicker infusion time will result in an under-extracted coffee.

3/ Temperature and water quality of the water - Always use fresh cold water to start off the brewing process. Ideally the water should be filtered to remove unwanted taints and odours and be very slightly hard.

Ideally water that is between 94 and 98 degrees Celcius should be used - not boiling water. If the water is too hot the coffee grounds can be scolded imparing the flavour.

Kitchen countertop is important

The kitchen countertop is important to the final look and feel of a kitchen. There are many considerations to look into when deciding on a countertop.

There are also a wide variety of colors and textures to choose from. Some provide very good stain resistance and ease of cleaning. Replacement of these kitchen countertops can usually be accomplished in a weekend. It could be simpler to replace the plywood beneath it also, instead of wasting time trying to ready the older material.

The biggest headache ceramic tiles poses is grout as it is hard to clean. Even though they are quite durable, they will crack occasionally. When this happens, they are usually left alone since they are so difficult to replace. Because of this, these countertops often begin looking old and rundown.

If you’re budget will allow it, one of the best kitchen countertop materials is granite. Prices range from $80 per square foot to much more than that. This type must also be sealed regularly, but you can’t beat the look and durability. Installation can be a bit trickier and should probably be done by professionals. This will give the final result less visible seams.

This material is very durable and heat resistant. Another nice feature is that it never requires sealing. Stains and scratches should not be a problem either. It is possible to install this type of kitchen countertop yourself, but usually your best bet is to go with a professional.

Computerized Home Security

There are many security tasks where a personal computer can be used. One of the more popular uses of a computer is with the video security equipment. The traditional way to install video security equipment is to connect video cameras to the TV and VCR. The TV screen simply displays the picture that the camera is transmitting and VCR records everything that is shown on the TV screen. But if we introduce the personal computer into the picture, you can eliminate both the TV and VCR and develop a system that is even more secure. A computer monitor can be used for direct viewing. Wireless video cameras will transfer the video stream directly to the computer. With proper software the computer can digitally record either all the video information sent to it or it can activate the recording only when the software detects any movement (recording is started only when there is a change in the video picture).

There are many other benefits of this type of the security system. For example, if one of the cameras fails or breaks down, the PC will detect this and will notify you about this issue right away. If a wireless connection fails, the computer will try to reestablish the connection with the camera and will notify the owner if it did not succeed. All of the data (video stream) is stored digitally in a more compact form. It becomes very easy to examine the recorded video stream. Same benefits apply to the audio systems connected to the computer. Audio stream, in addition to video stream, can also be stored and analyzed by the computer. Both audio and video surveillance systems can be combined in one system using a PC.

There are many other types of security equipment that you can connect to your computer. For example, your alarm system and motion detection system can be connected to the computer. The software can then send you or someone else an alarm signal or perform some other programmed activity. All the incoming information is stored and can be retrieved at a later time. Other types of equipment can also be connected. Some of the systems are even sold in one big combined computerized security package.

You should spend enough time on selecting the proper home security software package when creating the computerized home security system. Quality software will definitely make your security systems work better. You should look for the software from trusted companies that were in business for a long time and that earned customers’ trust. This type of software will be more expensive but will provide you with a higher degree of protection. Proper software configuration is also very important. If you are not familiar with security and information technology, you should have a professional install and configure your computerized security system. You should try to find software that takes care of all security needs.

Is cooking your thing

If your family is anything like ours, we live in our kitchen. The Kitchen is the place where we congregate to talk, eat and guests usually gravitate towards. When you remodel your kitchen consider a few thing before you start.

1. Is cooking your thing? My wife lives to cook, and we took that into consideration when we were planning a kitchen. I am a fan of eating, not cooking, so I got out of her way when we were looking at kitchens. She knew what she was looking for and what would keep the experience pleasurable for her.

If cooking is not your thing, maybe it would be best to keep from investing large sums of money on a kitchen. Make it functional, and nice. Just do not make it a huge priority. Whether that consideration be in thought or dollars.

2. Look for a space to congregate for your family. Does your family eat together? Does everyone eat at the counter? This is a space that will be used probably on a day to day basis. It amazes me how people do not look at how they use the space before they buy a house. The dining room is often a breaking point in a purchase, but a space that is used regularly is often over looked or just passed over. If the house does not have a dining room, you may put it on the "no" list, when you will use that room two maybe three time per year.

I am going to say this again, because it is important. Look at how you use the spaces and determine the importance.

Just a few thoughts as you are outfitting your kitchen. There are many more kitchen articles in our kitchen section. There is more specific information in the links at the beginning of this article. They can guide you where you need to go.

kitchen cabinets: RTA Kitchen Cabinets

The phrase RTA cabinet may not be familiar to the average person, but because of the internet, it is becoming more popular. When it comes to buying kitchen cabinets or even bathroom vanities, the three letters RTA might sound strange. Ironically, even the kitchen cabinets you find at the big box stores were at some point an RTA kitchen or bathroom cabinet.

The term RTA refers to a cabinet being “Ready to Assemble”. Since most cabinets on the market are mass-produced pieces, whether you buy cabinets in a store or on-line they can most likely be classified as Ready to Assemble. The only difference is that if you buy them on-line you can assemble them yourself and eliminate the high mark retail markup that is needed to cover their additional overhead expenses and the labor to assemble the cabinets. Any person can put one of these cabinets together. It takes a flat head screwdriver and the one page of directions included in the box.

So why are unassembled RTA cabinets becoming so popular? It really comes down to convenience and price. You can shop from the comfort of your home or office, any time of the day or week. You don’t have to pay the ridiculously high price of retail, and you can take pride in the fact that you not only saved money by assembling them yourself, but you also added value to your home.

The RTA kitchen cabinets are made of solid wood fronts and paneled wood sides. No cardboard or particleboard is used in the construction of the better RTA cabinets. Make sure when looking online, you follow through the website and find where it states what materials are used in the construction of the cabinets. Even though a website might state that it uses wood, make sure it is wood throughout the cabinet, and not just on the face frames. The problem with particleboard, fiberboard, or cardboard is that they don’t have the strength of plywood and they can be affected by moisture.

So as with any major purpose, the secret to finding a good buy is to shop around. Go out and look in any retail store. Finding a better buy for a comparable cabinet will be hard, if not impossible. The retail super stores have too many overhead expenses and cannot offer the same price that a direct RTA kitchen cabinet importer can offer. At the same time, searching online is a better way to save, but you have to be careful of what companies you’re buying from and what they are offering. Many of the on-line stores are actually buying from a third party, so they can’t offer you the same delivery schedule, same low price, or customer service in the event of a problem. By dealing with the direct importers, you will have a more enjoyable experience and get the customer service you need.

Natural Stone Bathrooms

In recent years the master bathroom has suddenly become one of the most important rooms in our homes. It seems that every home buyer is looking for a master suite that has a luxurious bathroom. They can be in many different styles and designs. What is important to potential home buyers is that the home has one.

The master suite and its bathroom has come to represent a private and secluded place in the home where the adults can go to relax, rest, and recuperate from a long day's activities. A master suite will usually include a sumptuous bed, television, and a bathroom with a bathtub or shower that invites one to ease away the stresses of life.

Elegance in the master bathroom can be obtained in many ways. One of the most used elements in a master bath these days is natural stone. Its many colors and textures when polished to a high sheen radiates with elegance and beauty.

Natural stone like marble has long been used as a decorative element in fancy bathrooms. Today other natural stones like granite, travertine, Jerusalem stone and so many more are used as well.

Sometimes a homeowner will use different colors of the same natural stone type to create their own special look. You can use natural stone in slab form for bathroom countertops or bathtub surrounds.

Surfaces like the bathroom floor, shower surrounds or walls are usually surfaced with natural stone tiles. Natural stone is considered a high end product in a home and can be quite expensive in large slab pieces.

Some of the most beautiful bathrooms in the world are being designed using natural stone. It is difficult to find up scale homes that do not have natural stone used in them somewhere, if not all throughout the home.

Using natural stone adds value to a homes worth because of the expense of the product, but also because it adds a gorgeous look that will last for years. The fact that it is a natural product is a factor in the addition of value to the home as well.

Many people want to use as much recycled, environmentally friendly, and natural products as they can in their homes today. Using natural stone is not only a good choice to use because it is beautiful, but because it is a natural product that will stand the test of time.
