Is cooking your thing

If your family is anything like ours, we live in our kitchen. The Kitchen is the place where we congregate to talk, eat and guests usually gravitate towards. When you remodel your kitchen consider a few thing before you start.

1. Is cooking your thing? My wife lives to cook, and we took that into consideration when we were planning a kitchen. I am a fan of eating, not cooking, so I got out of her way when we were looking at kitchens. She knew what she was looking for and what would keep the experience pleasurable for her.

If cooking is not your thing, maybe it would be best to keep from investing large sums of money on a kitchen. Make it functional, and nice. Just do not make it a huge priority. Whether that consideration be in thought or dollars.

2. Look for a space to congregate for your family. Does your family eat together? Does everyone eat at the counter? This is a space that will be used probably on a day to day basis. It amazes me how people do not look at how they use the space before they buy a house. The dining room is often a breaking point in a purchase, but a space that is used regularly is often over looked or just passed over. If the house does not have a dining room, you may put it on the "no" list, when you will use that room two maybe three time per year.

I am going to say this again, because it is important. Look at how you use the spaces and determine the importance.

Just a few thoughts as you are outfitting your kitchen. There are many more kitchen articles in our kitchen section. There is more specific information in the links at the beginning of this article. They can guide you where you need to go.

kitchen cabinets: RTA Kitchen Cabinets

The phrase RTA cabinet may not be familiar to the average person, but because of the internet, it is becoming more popular. When it comes to buying kitchen cabinets or even bathroom vanities, the three letters RTA might sound strange. Ironically, even the kitchen cabinets you find at the big box stores were at some point an RTA kitchen or bathroom cabinet.

The term RTA refers to a cabinet being “Ready to Assemble”. Since most cabinets on the market are mass-produced pieces, whether you buy cabinets in a store or on-line they can most likely be classified as Ready to Assemble. The only difference is that if you buy them on-line you can assemble them yourself and eliminate the high mark retail markup that is needed to cover their additional overhead expenses and the labor to assemble the cabinets. Any person can put one of these cabinets together. It takes a flat head screwdriver and the one page of directions included in the box.

So why are unassembled RTA cabinets becoming so popular? It really comes down to convenience and price. You can shop from the comfort of your home or office, any time of the day or week. You don’t have to pay the ridiculously high price of retail, and you can take pride in the fact that you not only saved money by assembling them yourself, but you also added value to your home.

The RTA kitchen cabinets are made of solid wood fronts and paneled wood sides. No cardboard or particleboard is used in the construction of the better RTA cabinets. Make sure when looking online, you follow through the website and find where it states what materials are used in the construction of the cabinets. Even though a website might state that it uses wood, make sure it is wood throughout the cabinet, and not just on the face frames. The problem with particleboard, fiberboard, or cardboard is that they don’t have the strength of plywood and they can be affected by moisture.

So as with any major purpose, the secret to finding a good buy is to shop around. Go out and look in any retail store. Finding a better buy for a comparable cabinet will be hard, if not impossible. The retail super stores have too many overhead expenses and cannot offer the same price that a direct RTA kitchen cabinet importer can offer. At the same time, searching online is a better way to save, but you have to be careful of what companies you’re buying from and what they are offering. Many of the on-line stores are actually buying from a third party, so they can’t offer you the same delivery schedule, same low price, or customer service in the event of a problem. By dealing with the direct importers, you will have a more enjoyable experience and get the customer service you need.

Natural Stone Bathrooms

In recent years the master bathroom has suddenly become one of the most important rooms in our homes. It seems that every home buyer is looking for a master suite that has a luxurious bathroom. They can be in many different styles and designs. What is important to potential home buyers is that the home has one.

The master suite and its bathroom has come to represent a private and secluded place in the home where the adults can go to relax, rest, and recuperate from a long day's activities. A master suite will usually include a sumptuous bed, television, and a bathroom with a bathtub or shower that invites one to ease away the stresses of life.

Elegance in the master bathroom can be obtained in many ways. One of the most used elements in a master bath these days is natural stone. Its many colors and textures when polished to a high sheen radiates with elegance and beauty.

Natural stone like marble has long been used as a decorative element in fancy bathrooms. Today other natural stones like granite, travertine, Jerusalem stone and so many more are used as well.

Sometimes a homeowner will use different colors of the same natural stone type to create their own special look. You can use natural stone in slab form for bathroom countertops or bathtub surrounds.

Surfaces like the bathroom floor, shower surrounds or walls are usually surfaced with natural stone tiles. Natural stone is considered a high end product in a home and can be quite expensive in large slab pieces.

Some of the most beautiful bathrooms in the world are being designed using natural stone. It is difficult to find up scale homes that do not have natural stone used in them somewhere, if not all throughout the home.

Using natural stone adds value to a homes worth because of the expense of the product, but also because it adds a gorgeous look that will last for years. The fact that it is a natural product is a factor in the addition of value to the home as well.

Many people want to use as much recycled, environmentally friendly, and natural products as they can in their homes today. Using natural stone is not only a good choice to use because it is beautiful, but because it is a natural product that will stand the test of time.
